The first time a dad hears the word “hypnobirthing”, he often rolls his eyes, assuming it’s another fad. He mentions it to his friends and they raise their eyebrows. And then it gets even worse: he discovers he is expected to come to the classes too!
A lot of dads arrive at their first Hypnobirthing class sceptical about what is to come. However, the difference in these dads after the first hour of the class is amazing. Their mindsets totally change once they get into the class.
So, why do dads love Hypnobirthing so much?
A Part To Play In The Birth
We’ve all heard the stereotype of the partner at a birth, standing awkwardly in the corner, or passing out at the crucial moment.
Hypnobirthing gives the partner a true role in his baby’s birth. It gives him a set of tools to enable him to fully support his partner through the biggest event of her life.
Many Hypnobirthing mothers say that their partner played as big a role in their baby’s birth as she did, and that she couldn’t have done it without her partner.
A Full Understanding
Hypnobirthing isn’t just a set of relaxation techniques to help you through labour. It also involves learning about the physiology of birth.
This means that the partner is fully able to understand the process the woman’s body is going through, so that he can truly appreciate the miracle that is happening during the birth of his child.
A Logical Approach
Arguably one of the biggest reasons that men love Hypnobirthing is that it takes a logical approach to birth. It is fully based on science, and we link everything that we do in the course back to the research that it is based on, so that you fully understand why we are learning what we’re learning.
This logical approach particularly appeals to men, as they can understand why we are learning the techniques and why they are important.
Bond With Your Baby
The Hypnobirthing course relies heavily on the birth partner practicing along with the mother (although the course can be done without a birth partner if necessary). The partner will read scripts to the mother, and help her with her relaxations, so that he is able to help her relax during the birth. Eventually, even the partner’s voice will become a relaxation trigger, and he will be able to calm her just by speaking softly.
Research shows that when the mother is happy, the baby feels that happiness. During the daily Hypnobirthing practice, the baby hears his or her dad’s voice, and links it to the calm and happy feeling as the mother is relaxed and happy. The baby will then recognise this after birth, aiding the bond between the father and baby.
